Kenny condemns illegal dumping at Castlebar graveyard

Fine Gael leader Deputy Enda Kenny has condemned those responsible for dumping rubbish at the graveyard beside Lough Lannagh. The dumping is taking place at the weekends and has occurred twice over the past fortnight. The Mayo TD visited the area last Saturday morning to see the damage for himself and assisted in the clean-up with Councillor Ger Deere and Mr Ernie Sweeney.

Local processing of medical cards still under threat — Kenny

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has contacted the HSE regarding the centralised processing of medical cards and GP visit cards. In its response, the HSE have confirmed that its 2009 Service Plan will see these services being centrally processed at the Primary Care Reimbursement Services in Finglas. However, the response also stated that the HSE will not close any local offices that currently process medical card applications and will continue to provide information and assistance to clients about their entitlements. Nonetheless, this will involve a reassignment of existing human resources within the HSE.

George Lee to speak on Lisbon Treaty at Castlebar public meeting

Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny TD has invited newly elected Fine Gael TD George Lee to speak at a public meeting in Castlebar. The meeting will focus on the Lisbon Treaty and specifically Europe and jobs. It is taking place at the TF Royal Hotel in Castlebar on Monday September 28 at 8pm. The Fine Gael MEP for Ireland North West Jim Higgins will also be speaking at the meeting.

Horkan’s Lifestyle and Garden Centre — phase two official opening

Today, Friday October 2, sees the official opening of the expansion at Horkan’s Lifestyle and Garden Centre in Turlough. The centre has been extended by 12,000sq ft, 8,000sq ft of which has already been occupied by a new expansive gift area, plus units leased to Edinburgh Woollen Mills and the Bayleaf Restaurant. Since opening in April this year, these new additions to the Horkan’s offeringd have gone from strength to strength.

Tyrell Cup first of the major crowns to be given out

The first of the major adult county titles will be given out on Saturday when Tooreen host Ballyhaunis in the Mayo Senior Hurling Championship final, with the TJ Tyrell Cup at stake. The men in red and black have been the premier force in Mayo hurling for the last decade, picking up their fifth title in seven years last year with a 0-15 to 2-7 win over their opponents. The last time Tooreen won the county title was back in 2003 and since then they have been on the coat tails of their neighbours.

Ceann Comhairle John O’Donoghue has finally succumbed to public and political pressure and resigned. Well actually after the weekend he will take the shameful step, that is if the Government haven’t already fallen.
